NOLA Gold and Louisiana Rugby are happy to announce the launch of the Jr. Gold Rugby League.
The Jr. Gold Rugby League is FREE and runs from April 10th through May 18th. No previous playing experience is required and the league is open to boys and girls ages 5-14 (K- 8th grade).
Our mission is to develop young rugby men and women by providing them opportunities to learn fundamental rugby skills, running, passing techniques, teamwork and sportsmanship. The Jr. Gold League is designed to give participants an opportunity to be coached by current NOLA Gold professional players and coaches. We aim to develop local youth and provide a pathway for players into Louisiana high school rugby.
Head Coach Nate Osborne expressed his excitement for the Jr. Gold Youth Rugby League saying, “This is a great opportunity for youth within Louisiana to learn the basics of rugby. It also provides a clear pathway for players to progress through Louisiana high school rugby and one day play professional rugby for NOLA Gold. Having four daughters of my own, I am excited that youth now have a place to play rugby. I’m also excited to see the rapid growth of both men and women’s rugby within Louisiana.”
The Jr. Gold Rugby League will consist of school-grade divisions. Emphasis will be on safety and ultimately having fun, while the use of flags limits physical contact.
The Jr. Gold League will have 3 practices on Wednesdays leading up to the games on Saturday (dates below). T-shirts will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring comfortable athletic attire, cleats and mouthguards (if desired).
Practices will be held at Gretna Park: 860 Gretna Blvd, Gretna, LA 70053. (Between Gretna BMX Park and Gretna Middle School)
Games will be held at NOLA Gold’s home pitch: 1000 Barataria Blvd., Marrero, LA 70072.
