Team captain Eric Howard earned a spot on this week’s Major League Rugby First XV roster for his work against the Seattle Seawolves in Week 13.
The hooker led the Gold with 15 tackles, carried the ball for a team-high 16 times, gained 72 meters and added a try in NOLA’s 25-24 loss against Seattle.
Howard opened the Gold’s scoring in the 24th minute with the Gold in position for a five-meter line out deep inside Seattle territory. The captain threw the ball in, bound onto the back of a maul and eventually powered his way in for a score that put the Gold up 6-3.
The score was Howard’s seventh try of the season, good for third place in the league behind fellow NOLA teammate Tristan Blewett (9 tries) and Glendale’s John Ryberg (10 tries).
This is the third time this season that Howard has made the MLR’s First XV roster representing the hooker position.
Howard and the Gold return home to face Austin Elite Rugby next Saturday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. Central Time.
