METAIRIE, LA—After taking their first loss of the season against the Austin Gilgronis Saturday, the NOLA Gold are back in the Gold Mine preparing for this week’s match against the New England Free Jacks. New England enjoyed a BYE week in week four after they narrowly defeated Utah 22-21 in week 3.
The Gold will host the Free Jacks at the Gold Mine on Saturday, April 17 at 3:00 pm. Last season, New Orleans defeated New England 31-22 in their matchup at the Gold Mine.
The Gold (1-1-1) currently sit at third in the Eastern Conference with the Free Jacks (2-1-1) holding the second spot. Both teams have scored 9 points total in the league standings, but the Free Jacks better record bumps them into the number two spot.
Head Coach Nate Osborne says that to him, the standings don’t mean anything.
“I don’t really look at the standings or think too much about it … I just know we need to go out and perform… and I know that we have an opportunity to prove a couple of people wrong because I think that we haven’t been playing well. I know who we are, and I know the boys know who we are…but we need to prove ourselves this week and come out firing so that everybody else knows who we are. It’s not necessarily about who we’re playing. It could be the Free Jacks or whoever’s at the top or the bottom of the standings. We need to do what we do, and the rest will take care of itself.
This will be the NOLA Gold’s last home game before taking the road to play Rugby ATL in Atlanta on April 24.
