NOLA GOLD Rugby made a significant statement in the 2024 Major League Rugby (MLR) Collegiate Draft by selecting two standout players from Penn State University. Aidan King and Dalton Musselman, both Penn State alumni, have been picked to join NOLA GOLD, adding power and versatility to the team’s roster.
Aidan King, a 22-year-old flanker from Anchorage, Alaska, was selected as the 6th pick in the first round. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 220 pounds, Aidan brings a wealth of experience and leadership to NOLA GOLD. His rugby journey began in Brisbane, Australia, where he played high school rugby for Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie). During his time in Australia, Aidan’s accomplishments included playing for the QLD Reds U16 team in 2018, captaining Churchie’s First XV in 2019, and competing with Wests Rugby Premier Colts in 2020.
After moving back to the United States, Aidan continued to shine at Penn State under coach Hundley. He played openside flanker for three years, earning numerous accolades along the way. Notably, Aidan was a Rudy Scholz Award Finalist for the 2021/2022 season, made the Rugby East Second Team for the 2023/2024 season, and was named Penn State Rugby Team MVP in both the 2021/2022 and 2023/2024 seasons. His impressive performances also earned him the title of Penn State Rugby Team Best Forward for the 2023/2024 season. Aidan’s robust playing style and leadership on the field make him a valuable addition to NOLA GOLD.
Joining Aidan at NOLA GOLD is Dalton Musselman, a 23-year-old fly-half from Coatesville, Pennsylvania, who was selected as the 8th pick in the second round. Dalton’s rugby journey spans over a decade, and his experience at both the national and club levels sets him apart. Standing at 5 feet 10 inches and weighing 195 pounds, Dalton’s strategic mind and precise kicking ability make him a key playmaker on the field.
Dalton has honed his skills through his involvement with the USA U23s and USA Falcons team for rugby 7s. His impressive track record includes winning the national championship with NAV Rugby in both 2023 and 2024. These experiences, combined with his deep understanding of the game, make Dalton a versatile and dynamic player who is expected to make an immediate impact at NOLA GOLD.
The addition of Aidan King and Dalton Musselman to NOLA GOLD’s roster underscores the team’s commitment to building a strong and competitive squad for the upcoming MLR season. Both players bring unique skills, international experience, and a winning mentality to the team. As NOLA GOLD prepares for the 2024 season, the Penn State alumni are poised to play crucial roles in the team’s pursuit of success.
With the drafting of these two exceptional players, NOLA GOLD continues to invest in the future of rugby in New Orleans, and fans can look forward to seeing Aidan and Dalton in action as they take the field in GOLD.
