28-year-old South African fullback Carl Meyer signs a 3-year contract with the Gold ahead of the 2020 Major League Rugby season.
From 2015-2018, Meyer played professionally in Wales for the Dragons, competing in the PRO14 competition, the Anglo Welsh Cup and the European Challenge Cup.
“We are very excited to have Carl join the NOLA Gold brotherhood. With his experience and professionalism, coming from the PRO14 level with the Dragons, he will really fit into and add to our momentum and the NOLA Gold culture here,” said General Manager Ryan Fitzgerald.
“At 6’2 and a half –230 pounds, he brings tremendous versatility, toughness, size and speed to the midfield and gives Coach Osborne another weapon in that already very loaded back line. We’re really excited to have him on board for the next three years and see where this takes us.”
This past season, Meyer played for the Northwood Crusaders in Durban, South Africa.
Originally from Pietermaritzburg, SA, Meyer earned a spot in the Sharks Academy and U-19 squad from 2010-2011. In 2011, Meyer also spent time with the Investec International Elite Rugby Academy.
From there, Meyer played for the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in the Varsity Cup, then joining Ebbw Vale RFC from 2013-2014/15 in the Welsh Premiership, prior to his time with the Dragons.
